I am having one of those days where I have a shit ton to do at work and no motivation to do it. We have up to 14 new hires starting in October, that I need to get started on building out, a bunch of upgrades for existing employees, and a couple of test machines to trial run a new version of our auditing softwares...so it's not like I have nothing to do, just no gumption to do it.

Doesn't help that I finished the reading the entirety of the internet like an hour ago.....who says I have no ambition?

Duck Confit over a White Bean and Kale Ragu

Made this dish the other day. Duck confit is actually super easy, despite it's fancy heritage. Just cover the duck legs with some olive oil (traditionally duck fat, but I only bought duck legs, so wouldn't be able to render the fat from the carcass) to about 2/3'rd up the side of the duck legs, add some aromatics (I used celery, carrot, onion, whole garlic cloves, and some thyme sprigs) then bump it in an oven set to about 265 degrees. Let it cook low and slow for about 3 hours. Once the time is up, remove the legs, and strain the oil, removing the solids, but reserving the fat. Place the legs at the bottom of a bowl, and then cover with said fat so that it completely submerses the duck legs, this is what makes it a 'confit', i.e. to preserve in it's own fat. I am told you can keep the legs like this, shelf stable, for like 2 months....I have never let a duck leg sit uneaten ANYWHERE for that long, so I can't say for sure. When it comes time to eat, just take the leg out of it's fatbath, scrape off the excess oil, and then pan sear (I use a non stick pan for this) the legs, skin side down at first until the skin is dark brown and crispy, and then the other side until it is warm all the way through.
This is a seriously unctuous dish, full of flavor and richness, give it a try sometime!

I am thrilled that she is running, I am certain her campaign will be much more robust than Martha Coakley's, I supported Martha, but she just didn't put in the hours you need to run a succesful campaign....she basically gave the seat to Brown.

I look forward to this campaign, and getting Massachusetts back on track and back in the Blue! Go Warren!!!

I make it with San Marzano tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella, and the basil you see is from my own garden.....so tasty!!!

And here is what seperates the wheat from the chaff. Faced with an unmercifully salty pastrami, and a week worth of dinners to cook, I had a flash of genius. We were set to have fried chicken and collard greens for dinner tonight, a staple of the northe east (snicker), when it struck me.....why use bacon (or a ham hock, or a piece of smoked shoulder for that matter) as the flavor meat for the collards, when a nicy salty hunk o' pastrami could do the same job, and resurect my fallen smoked project from an early grave!!!??!!

It turned out even better than I'd hoped, so good, that I have frozen the remaining pastrami for just such future applications. Pastrami, you have not beaten me yet...I will make you, and it will happen this BBQ season, but damn, you have got to love snatching victory, from the jaws....of defeat!

Well, apparently 6 hours is NOT long enough of a soak time for a 3/2.5 lb brisket. I want to try this again in the near future, as besides the saltiness, I think I have the other flavors just right. But as for now, it's just barely edible, which I suppose is an upgrade from my first attempt, which was completely inedible, so baby steps, you know?

Well the fam and I are about to go on a quest for fresh water, as the entire city of Boston, and surrounding towns are on a tap water ban, due to a major breach of a water main. Pray for us, I have packed the shotgun and my pistols, and am prepared to defend ourselves from the water bandits and pirates I am certain to encounter on our quest.

UPDATE: Went to my parents house on the south shore of Ma. and we scored about 15 gallons of water (as the BWC has no ETA on repairs for the water main), but even there, 40 miles south of Boston, the shelves were being cleared, and on the way back, I noticed that traffic jams were up and down the highway heading south. Thank goodness I insisted we go as early as possible!

Okay, going to try something new this BBQ season, home made pastrami. For this experiment (I will be updating this post for the next couple of days with the progress), I am going to use a flat cut,red, corned beef brisket (trimmed). A little research (and a failed experiment last week that left me with 4lbs of inedible hyper-salty brisket) suggests that on this, day one, I should soak the meat in cold water, 2 hours per pound, changing the water at the end of each 2 hour cycle. So for today, I have done just that.

Next, in preperation for tomorrows smoking, I have prepared a pastrami rub. It is as follows.

4 tbls of freshly ground black pepper

2 tbls of freshly ground coriander seed
1 tbls of brown sugar
1 tspn of garlic powder
1 tspn of paprika

mixed thoroughly and stored in a dry, dark space (light can kill the flavor of dried spices).

Shrimp and Pork Potstickers, with Fried Rice

Made this the other night, they were SOOOOOO good! Here's the recipe (for the potstickers that is, fried rice is whatever you have in the fridge chopped up, cold cooked rice, and soy sauce)

½ lb Napa Cabbage
½ lb Ground Pork
½ lb Shrimp (chopped)
2 Tbs Soy Sauce
2 Tbs Dry Sherry/Rice wine
1 tsp Fresh Ginger (microplaned)
1 tsp Toasted Sesame Oil
1 tsp Granulated Sugar
¼ tsp Freshley ground black pepper
1 large Egg
1 package Thicker cut potsticker wrappers (found in asian markets)

For the filling:

Place cabbage and salt in a fine mesh strainer and toss with your hands to coat cabbage with salt. Place strainer over a large bowl and let sit for 10 minutes.
1. After 10 minutes, squeeze any liquid from the cabbage with your hands, discard liquid, and place cabbage in the bowl used for straining.
2. Add remaining ingredients and, using hands, mix thoroughly, pressing mixture against the side of the bowl until it forms a sticky mass.

To form and cook:

Fill a small bowl with room-temperature water; set aside. Lay a wrapper on a clean work surface and place 1 tablespoon of the filling in the center. Dip your finger in the water and trace around the edge of the wrapper to moisten. Fold the wrapper in half by bringing the bottom up to the top, then pinch the midpoint to seal. To the right of the midpoint, and only on the top side of the wrapper, fold three pleats angling back toward the midpoint. Pinch each pleat to seal. Repeat with three pleats to the left of the midpoint, making sure the pot sticker is completely sealed (that last step is from the official recipe...my hands shake something awful, and did a piss poor job making the pleats, and it still came out great, so don't sweat it if they look kind of hinky). Lift the pot sticker off the work surface from the midpoint so that the pleats are vertical and facing you. Gently push down to form a flat bottom. Place on a baking sheet and cover with plastic wrap. Repeat with remaining filling and wrappers. At this point, the pot stickers can be frozen and cooked later (that's what I did, they freeze great!).
1. In a large nonstick pan with a tightfitting lid, heat 2 tablespoons of the oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Place 12 pot stickers in a circle facing the same direction (they will look like the spokes of a wheel). Fry undisturbed until the bottoms are light golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes.
2. Reduce heat to medium and carefully add 1/4 cup of the room-temperature water (be careful because the oil may spatter). Cover and cook for 3 minutes. Uncover and, using tongs, turn the pot stickers onto their unpleated sides. Continue cooking until all the water has evaporated, the filling is cooked through, and the unpleated sides are golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes more. Remove the pot stickers to a plate, wipe the skillet clean with paper towels, and repeat in 2 more batches. Serve with a dipping sauce made with soy sauce, ginger, scallion, and toasted sesame oil.

Ubuntu Linux, Free, Fast, and Very Easy to Use

If you were to need a new operating system for your computer, might I make a suggestion? Ubuntu Linux Distribution is an excellent OS for you to consider. It's an open source project, which means it's community created and 100% free to use. It's also significantly smaller than any Windows install, and uses far less resources, that means it will run faster and more efficiently, and can even breathe life back into an older machine you might have lying around...sort of making it a green product! Installation is quick and simple, once you create an ISO image of the install disk on a cd (instructions are on their website), and can even be installed inside Windows without having to create a partition!!! This will let you test it out and see if it's for you prior to making the full plunge. It does everything an OS is supposed to do, and it comes with OpenOffice and an email client to boot, it's the complete package. Save yourself the 300$ Microsoft would have you pay them for an OS, and stop feeding a corporate Juggernaut, and give this bad boy a try! You heard this straight up from an IT professional!

So I mentioned this last week, and thought I would share this experience with you. My wife a few months back had brought my little pal to the pediatricians for his checkup, and he was deemed physically healthy, but his doctor thought he was a bit behind in his speech development (I agree somewhat with that assessment), and was not making sufficient eye contact for his liking (seriously dude, you are stabbing him with needles, are you surprised he's not looking lovingly in your eyes and saying what a great guy you are??). At the doctors suggestion, we made an appointment with some specialists to ascertain what, if anything, was going on.

December rolls around, and my wife, son, and myself are off to see said specialists on the 17th. Both of us are somewhat leery of the idea that our little man might have some sort of disorder, his doctor thinks he "may be on the bubble" of the autistic spectrum. I think my pediatrician might be "on the bubble" of losing some patients.

We get to the facility, and are ushered into a small, drab, brown room that is littered with what had to be the saddest, most depressing collection of dirty lame ass toys I have ever seen. Sitting on one of the tiny, dirty, children's chairs is the specialist...kind of an older hippy type lady. Her intention was to engage the little guy in play, and try to get a handle on where he was developmentally.

Now, I want to make this clear. Nate's health and well being are of the utmost importance to me. When his doctor made his suggestion, both my wife and I felt it was incumbent upon us to follow through with his suggestions, to do otherwise would be a disservice to our son, and in the end, what is the point of taking him to the doctors if your not going to do as they suggest. Much like in the IT world, when someone calls me about an issue, and I tell them why it's happening, and they say something along the lines of "hmm I don't think that's it". If you know so much about what's going on, why the fuck did you call me?

For the next 45 minutes this woman engaged Nate in what can only be described as the least fun form of play I have ever seen. At one point, she plopped a clothe less baby doll, just a creepy plastic head and a dirty cloth body up on the table in the room, and then, from under her chair, she pulls out a plastic bag containing a lump of old, dry, once white, but now streaked with grey, cracked pile of play dough. Just looking at the dough made me sad inside. She takes this lump, and presses down on it, causing cracks and fissures to form on the sides, as all moisture has long since left this depressing, circa 1970's lump of dog poop. Pressing 3 wooden sticks into, she starts cooing in a high pitched voice "Look Nathan! It's the baby's birthday!! We made a birthday cake for the baby!!!". Never have I been so proud of my little man when he looked her right in the eye, and said "yeah, that's play dough". Three more times she tried to get him to do this, and three times she was denied. That was not a cake. That was a sadness patty.

We left the doctors office kind of annoyed with the appointment. But were really upset when a few weeks later we got the written assessment. The doctor had determined that Nate was PPD-ONS, or Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. I diagnose the specialist with BULLSHIT. Tell me, how can you diagnose, after just 45 minutes in a depression chamber, playing games that NO CHILD OF ANY AGE would play, a child with something as serious and life changing as autism? Is Nate behind on his speech? Yes, a little bit, but as I understand it, boys tend to be just that. Was Nate not making eye contact with the hippy lady? Yes, but to be honest, I can't blame him one bit, she was creepy and weird. Did Nate not engage in the kind of play that this woman wanted him to? No he did not, but I challenge you to find any kid, of any age, play the god awful "games" that this weirdo had laid out. In the assesment it stated that Nate would not engage in an activity or conversation if he was not interested in it. No fucking shit lady, neither do I, or anyone I know for that matter unless it's work related. I only do shit I like to do when I am 'playing'. Sheesh!

At one point, she asked us why we didn't see his affinity for traffic signs as odd behavior, and a warning flag that something might be wrong. That really got me steamed, his affinity for signs has been a great tool for us to teach him letters, colors and shapes, and while for a bit there he was bordering on obsessive behavior, he has totally backed off of that now, and only talks about his street signs when he is stressed out (like when we were at this appointment!). I mean, at the end of the day, how is his clinging to a stop sign toy any different than another child clinging to their 'blanky'? There is no difference in my eyes. My boy is fine.

We have decided not to pursue this further. As his parents, we have the right to refuse the diagnosis. And funny thing is, the milestones that the doctors were pointing out that our little friend had not hit? He hit them about 2 weeks after his appointment, suck on that hippy. Autism is real, and tragic if a child has it, especially the more sever cases. But when every little boy in your neighborhood has been diagnosed with some kind of autism, that's a red flag to me. Something is not right with the system.

This would be funnier if it wasn't so painfully close to reality

Fancy Fast Food takes shitty fast food take out and "transforms" it into something "edible". I am using scare quotes because I am not really convinced of either but damn if I could not look away!

Reminds me of something I like to do everyonce and awhile around here and that's the reverse of the original concept, and make my own fast food, to be specific, we make homemade Big Macs. It's soooooo good, nice flat patties, shredded lettuce, homemade russian dressing, orange cheese!!!!! I am so doing that in the near future!

Via Rolling Stone, it appears co-lead singer of 70's punk institution X, Exene Cervenka, has been diagnosed with MS.

I've seen X, and their side project The Knitters on several occasions, and they rock the house down. Here's hoping she's treated gently by this disease, and not left crippled....what a horrible thing to happen to someone who struck me as so alive.

On the updside, it sounds like she is facing this with a very positive attitude (as I would have imagined she would), so I suppose I should as well.

Gyros. Home made. Soooo good. First I minced some onion in the food processor, and then some garlic as well. I then took 1lb of ground lamb, and pulsed it in the old food processor with the onion and garlic, until it was a fine grind, then added a tablespoon or so of dried oregano, a teaspoon of marjoram, and a healthy bit of salt and pepper, and mixed it well. Press this mix into a loaf pan, and cook it at about 325 degrees in a water bath (see the photo above) for about 45 minutes, give or take a few, and then put a weight on top of the meat (I used another loaf pan, and then balanced my cast iron skillet on top of that, plenty heavy enough) and press it for about 15 minutes.
Gyros are served with a wonderful yogurt based sauce called tsajici. I get some Greek yogurt, an english cucumber (I like these better than a standard cuke, but if you use the standard, I would peel it, and scoop out the seeds with a spoon, as the seed bed in the standard is wetter and looser than an english, and can thin out you tsajici), a lemon, and salt and pepper, nice and simple. Take about one quarter of the english cucumber and peel the skin off, then dice the meat finely. With your veggie peeler, scrape off two strips of the zest of the the lemon, and mince it, add both to your bowl of yogurt. Squeeze the juice of the lemon into your mix, add salt and pepper to taste, and ta-daa!!! You have made tsajici! I let it set for at least an hour to allow the flavors to marry, and wouldn't recommend using it before that.
Traditionally served on warm, soft pita, I got this idea one night when we were enjoying Indian food.Naan bread is the perfect choice to simulate excellent pita (most pita from the grocery store tends to be stale and crumbly when folding, this fixes that issue). Just follow the instructions on the packaging, excluding the butter and water (both are not necessary) and brace yourself for Greek sandwich bliss.

When the meat has finished resting, slice it on long thin strips and place on your now warm "pita" bread. Dollop on your tsajici, and then add whatever toppings suit your fancy. I put fresh lettuce and tomato, but really there are no rules. Roll that bad boy up and get to work on one of the greatest sandwiches in the world.

I would have had a picture of the final project, but it was soooo good I lost control of myself and ate it all up before I could snap a pic. I have no self control.

Sen. John McCain is putting together a major economic plan that will be structured, in some ways, off of Newt Gingrich's famous Contract With America.

In an email obtained by the Huffington Post, the Arizona Republican's chief of staff, Marc Buse, asked an outside adviser for help with a "ten principles" program that the senator could use as a "definitive" platform.

"We are looking for some guidance on a definitive plan (aka contract with america style) on the economy...principles," writes Buse. "Ten principles that JSM could point to on what MUST BE DONE to address the problems our nation faces."

Sorry for not posting in so long, but life has been hectic .....it's the time of year.

Tax season has begun, and I am working 6 day weeks (well, not entirely true, as my co-worker will be taking every other Saturday this year...woot!), and with the holidays and all, well, just haven't had the time or energy to write something down.

Yep, you all might remember last year, around this very same weekend, me and a group of friends meet up and have 'Friends Thanksgiving', it's like real Thanksgiving, only without the fighting siblings and shreiking mother.

I have the turkey in the oven (last year I barbecued the turkey, and it rocked, but it's pouring rain outside, so no 'cue for me), and have made so much stuffing I could pack 4 birds. All's left for me to handle is the gravy, as we do this thing pot luck style.

Fortunately for me, we are doing this on a Saturday this year, as last years Sunday debacle went on entirely too late, with whiskey being shot to the wee morning ours and a very bleary eyed, and mostly drunk DeviledHam staggering into work on Monday morning smelling like a turkey on a 3 week bender.

Wish me luck this year, and maybe I'll snap some photos of the festivities!!!

Happy Friends Thanksgiving to everyone!!!! And lay off the whiskey this year, or wife's gonna leave you!

Well, it happened. I worked hard all year, and really turned up the juice these last 3 months. I am now officially Lower Management. That's not upper management or even middle management. Lower.

Just kidding (about the self deprecating tone), I am thrilled that I got this promotion. My vacation time has just doubled from 2 weeks a year to 4, and I get an added $5000 to my yearly salary....quite the trick in this economy.

I have been promised more work (that' to be expected), but that's cool too....I'm the sort of guy who thrives on lots of work and more responsibility. So hurray for me my friends!!!!

Wow, now if Obama wins (and really, how could he not) on Tuesday, this could turn out to be quite the banner year for the Devilham family.

Well, I spoke too soon. First, some backround story.

Last monday I came in to work (as you'll remember, I've been super busy rolling out laptops for a host of new hires starting this next Tuesday) and was told that one of our partners had her laptop stolen. Crap, right in the middle of all this business, I have to drop everything and build out a new machine for this idiot who left it in her car overnight...hell I would of stole it if I saw it out there.

That's not the half of it though, turns out lately my firm has been (and rightfully so, IT has been on these guys about this for years)freaking out about security. State law has changed since some high profile identity theft cases have emerged in the New England area, and when a machine is stolen, full disclosure must be given to our clients, and their credit has to be insured at our expense. This is big money folks.

Long story short, in order to insure that all client data is to be removed from all portable devices, I have to image (wipe the hard drive, and then overwrite it with a new operating system and software) and then rebuild every, single, motherfucking laptop in the firm. That's 125 odd devices. Please just shoot me now.

Oh, did I mention I have to have it done by the 31st of October?

I start on Wednsday, and am expected (the people have already been scheduled, I have no choice in the matter) to build out 10 machines a day. I average one and half normally. This is gonna be awesome.

Ah well, I better get that promotion, for reals.

As some of you have noticed (the two people left who check this blog out), I have been very busy with work, and posting has been light. I have been in the center of a big push to expand our company, and as the sole IT person, or at least IT grunt, there's management still, I have taken on a great deal of extra work and responsibility. It looks like this might work in my favor though, as first, today I finished the largest part of this project, and am ready to roll out all the new machines on tuesday...a huge burden off of my workload. Secondly, my supervisor has been very pleased with my work, and the way I've handled our department being shorthanded (not freaking out, just pressing on and making it happen, like I used to do when we got in the weeds when I was a cook....you can't panic, you just have to do it). There is talk of a promotion....I am not the 'climb the corporate ladder type' mind you, but this would entail two extra weeks of vacation a year, and a cut down on the amount of six day work weeks in the winter.....and that my friends, is worth the price of admission. It's been a tough couple of months, but I'm almost through it, and it looks like I'm gonna get rewarded.

Hell, even if I don't get the promotion, I can still expect a raise, and since I'll have been there for 5 years now, that means one extra week of vacation, and that counts for something!

This is PERFECT!!!!

Hiya folks, Devilham here with a brief update on why posts have been few and far between as of late.

A few months back my department was running on a skeleton crew, me being the only skeleton on that crew besides the IT director. It was acknowledged (finally) by the higher ups that we needed help, so they set out on the long and arduous process of hiring by committee of another IT person to take over some of my responsibilities and lend a hand around the office.

After a few more months, they finally picked their candidate, Felicity, and you know what? She was great. She's smart, helpful, and hard working, we got along instantly, and for the first time in a long time, it seemed like work was getting done, and not me being done in by work. But there is a twist.

Felicity was pregnant. Now that isn't the issue per se, she could perform her job just fine, and I was happy to jump in and do any heavy lifting for her (again, I like her very much, and the level of cooperation between the two of us is excellent, SOOO much better than her predecessor it's unbelievable), the issue is she knew she was preggars when she got hired (and again, I have no issues with this, it should be a non-issue), and our management is backwards and draconian when it comes to this sort of thing, which sucks.

Felicity was due in late October, three weeks ago she was taken off the job and put on bed rest due to high blood pressure. Last week she had her baby ....only two pounds and premature (obviously).

Mother and daughter are doing as well as can be expected, and I predict a full recovery for the little one, so no worries there (and that is the most important thing in my opinion). But work has suddenly become all encompassing. Sadly this event took place at a time when we are upgrading more than half the firms computers...this involves building out approximately 47 computers, a big job for two people (me and Felicity), and now it's just me. I come home from work wiped out, and while I read all my favorite blogs, and sometimes commment, I am having a hard time having the strength to post. I hope you understand.

Felicity's baby should be in the hospital for a few months, and I suspect that she will arrange something with our HR department so that she can come back to work for a few weeks while her daughter is in the hospital, and then take her maternity leave once the little one gets home, but can't say for sure.

Here's hoping that first and foremost that the little one makes it through this, secondly that my friend and co-worker does as well, and thirdly, and sadly lastly, that I get some help in the meantime.....I'm getting buried out here!!!!

WhiskeyMarie was curious as to what I did with all that farmey goodness, and I am going to tell you. First, that corn was unbeleivable, it's that hyper white super sweet corn that only seems to grow here in New England, it was delicous, and I made two compound butters to go with them, one was rosemary and garlic, and the other was chipotle and cilantro....yums.

You can see that eggplant back there, and I am going to admit, I am not a fan of the vegetable, but my wife loves it, and damn if it didn't look so buetiful all white and purple....I had to buy it. The eggplant I paired with the tomatoes you see there (they are award winning tomatoes fyi, and they. are. awesome.), some fresh basil, and buffalo mozzearella, kind of a sauceless eggplant parm al fresco...very nice and not to soggy since I used tomato slices instead of sauce.

The cauliflower I did one of my favorite preperations....Cauliflower Au Gratin, seriously, douse anything in cream and cheese and I am in. I got this recipe from a book by Julia Childs and Jacque Pepin (spelling?), and it's a doozy. It takes an amazingly buetiful cauliflower like the one pictured below and takes it to the next level. It was all so good, it's too bad summer doesn't last forever.

That being said, I am sick of sweating, the end.

Cooking with Devilham, the man, not the pork product

Here's what I made my wife and I for dinner (at her request) the other night, Fish Tacos, Nachos, and homemade Margaritas.

Fish tacos are dead easy, I used tilapia for the fish, cut it in strips and lightly floured it, then deep fried it. In a cast iron skillet on medium low I softened my corn tortillas by lightly brushing them with olive oil and searing them for a few seconds then covered them with a bowl and put them aside.

I made a lovely sauce with half mayonnaise, half sour cream and a chipotle pepper in adobo sauce (that's a smoked jalapeno in a tomato garlic sauce) blended in to both, and a salsa verde by roasting some tomatillas, jalapenos, onion, garlic, and a serrano chili under the broiler, then tossing them all into the blender with some lime juice and cilantro. Served up with some shredded cabbage and some cheese, it was a lovely meal.

Sorry people, I went MIA for a bit, then went through a "would it be weird if I blogged?" phase, shook that off, then kind of had bloggers block (is that a word?? It should be!), and now I, well, I just felt to ashamed not to post.

Had some vacation last week, mind you it was hot, Africa hot, so it pretty much kept me and Nate (the wife worked) trapped in the house most of the week, but we had fun anyways. Last friday I took the wee man to the New England Aquarium, you should have seen him, he was screaming at the fish he was so excited. Good times.

I have some pictures that I would like to put up here, sadly one of them is the little guy with his wee baby black eye, he hit his head on the corner of the coffee table. Whenever anyone asks me what happened, I just say, you should see the other baby, that usually shuts them up.

For those of us who have children, this video rings especially true. The idea of anyone taking my boy, and putting him in harms way puts me in instant protect mode. I don't care if you are angry about Hillary losing, I don't care if you think Obama is soft on terror (and he isn't jackass, he's SMART on terror, much better), if you think I'm going to let them draft my son and send him to fight your bullshit war, hell, I'll revolt. And not the 'switch parties' kind of revolt, more the 'line them up against the wall' kind, know what I mean?

Fantastic news (fyi, woot is video game jargon for Wicked gOOd looT), and now it looks like even Hillary is coming around.

I had hoped that she would have done the right thing yesterday, but I suppose that's like hoping that the sun won't rise, it is in her nature, might as well ask the birds to stop singing.

If you browse the intertubes you might have come accross some comparisons to Obama's victory speach last night, and John McSame's train wreck of a spoiler speech...it just makes me itch to see the debates that those two are going to have...it's patently unfair really, and I love it!

Hi erstwhile readers, sorry for the lite posting as of late, but parenting and work have kept me hella busy for the last few weeks, and I've had trouble finding spare time to oblige.

That being said, they let us out of work at 4 today to get an early start to the weekend and start it I have. Just picked up a six pack of Guinness, and two racks of St. Louis cut pork ribs for bbq'ing on sunday (six pack is for now, yah!), so I am ready to start the weekend right!

Tomorrow I will upload some photo's to the blog of The Little Guy for your viewing pleasure, and also to make room on my camera for the festivities on Sunday (nothing big, just a few freinds over for ribs, beer, and playing Nintendo Wii, my latest video game obsession). Do you have plans? If not, stop by the attic and enjoy a slow smoked rib or two, and I'll even spot you a beer, cuz I'm cool like that!

I was just surfing around the blogospher, checking on my favorites (and sadly some of those are not in my blogroll yet, it's because I'm lazy, and not because I don't love you) and looking at my favorite blogs, and I was overcome with the need to say thanks. Thanks guys for linking me, thanks for posting the great posts you do on your blogs, it's made me think, it's made me look into practicing art again (I was an art school dropout, and really don't exercise my talent anymore), and flex my B.S. muscle (i.e. my questionable writing skills), and just generally THINK more, and see that others are also thinking, and I want to thank you for that.

What a buetiful day we are having here in Boston (please, never call it beantown, no one who lives here calls it that, and no resteraunt serves baked beans), the sun is out, it's about 68 degrees and there's just a light breeze to keep what little clouds in the sky moving. The little guy crossed a couple of milestones today, and I must say he usually does those on the days that I am home, so this whole working 6 days a week thing was stunting his developement, it needed to end! First, last week, when my wife was away for the weekend, I got him to use and then MASTER, his sippy-cup. Now this week, not only did he hold my hand (something he wouldn't do previously) and walk calmly up and down my street, but then when we got back in the house for lunch, my big boy grabbed his spoon himself and was feeding himself with utensils. I am very proud today people, very proud. And to my wife? IN YOUR FACE!!! Just kidding, but it does seem I get all the cool milestones!

Already called up some of my boys and we'll be hitting the Jeannie Jonston (a pub I used to cook for) in Jamaica Plain for beers and shots of whiskey. Yes! It's my last Saturday that I have to work, these six day weeks have been brutal, and I am very excited to be done with them. My wife is going away for this weekend so it's just me and the little guy, it's just to bad that the weather is not going to cooperate for us, or else we would do something fun. The Franklin Park Zoo (the metro Boston area's largest, and maybe only, zoo) is actually within walking distance of our house, well, a long walk, but totally doable if the weather is nice, and I plan on taking Nate there at least once this year, if not more. My work also provides free tickets to The New England Aquarium (also very accessible via public transportation) and the Children's Museum, so I am looking very forward to some Little Guy time over the next few months. And speaking of museums, coincidentally enough, the day care providers who watch my little friend when I work on Saturdays just called me AS I TYPED THIS POST. They asked if they could take the kids (there are only three of them in my works day care facility today) to the Science Museum, which is literally right around the corner from my firm. I tell you, that little scamp is going to be cultured like a pearl by the end of the summer.

Little known Devilham fact: In the 90's I was in a (it was tounge and cheek mind you, satire) Twisted Sister themed band. We did Twisted Sister covers and other bad 80's hair metal, enjoy this video. Lead guitarist for TS, J.J. French is a staunch democrat, who's mother was deeply involved in the party, and his stock has risen in my opinion even higher than it already was.

I don't usually do these, but Dr. Zaius said he would perform experimental brain surgery on my after the Apepocalypse if I didn't comply, so here goes.

N- I enjoy being negative but more for humors sake, than a negative outlook on life
A- My favorite insult to hurl at other people? You Asshole
T- I stabbed a wino when I was ten (not really, but I think it's a funny thing to say when your pretending to be tough)
H- I have worn many hats throughout my working career, including but not just, caddy, dishwasher, bike courier, sales assistant, technical support specialist, short order cook, haute cuisine cook, busboy, pizza boy, and vintage clothe shop manager.
A- I love to antagonize tailgaters when they are behind me on the road. You start to ride my bumper, I will slow down an extra few MPH and do everything I can to not let you pass...I am a small and petty man
N- I almost never take my shirt off in public (or private for that matter), who wants to see my fat ass stomach anyways? And I bet the glare of the sun off my pale skin would blind a normal person.
